A new way of thinking

STEM has evolved into a way of thinking and inquiry
STEM was never just a list of subjects. Even though it began as a way to group four disciplines -Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The evolving nature of STEM disciplines is the major reason for a new paradigm of approaching science education.

Today, STEM is less about what you study and more about how you approach the world. It’s the curiosity to ask “why?”, the precision to ask “how?”, and the creativity to ask “what if?”. These intersections have birthed groundbreaking innovation. For instance, when biology meets computing, we get genomics. When materials science meets design, we get sustainable architecture. When data meets human behavior, we get tools that genuinely change lives.

Learning in the 21st Century

As an educationist, stepping into a global policy simulation space was both intellectually stretching and deeply affirming. The Harvard Model United Nations is often associated with secondary or undergraduate students, but engaging at this level reminded me that diplomacy, negotiation, and systems thinking are lifelong skills. Representing a nation, drafting resolutions, navigating competing interests, and building consensus reinforced something I strongly believe:
Education must go beyond content mastery; it must cultivate global competence.
As someone passionate about curriculum reform and the integration of science and engineering practices in education, this experience strengthened my commitment to:
• Teaching students how to think, not just what to think
• Embedding structured debate (dialogic teaching) and evidence-based argumentation into classrooms
